WASHINGTON, March 14 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Treasury Department on Tuesday imposed sanctions on a Kuwait-based financier for providing support and services for terrorist groups.
In a statement, the Treasury Department accused Muhammad Hadi al-Anizi of providing extensive material and financial support to al-Qaeda since at least 2007 and al-Nusrah Front since at least 2014.
As a result of action, all property of al-Anizi subject to U.S. jurisdiction are blocked, and U.S. persons are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with him.
"From raising funds to facilitating the travel of terrorists, al-Anizi is responsible for providing key financial and logistical support to al-Nusrah Front and al-Qaeda," said senior Treasury official John Smith.
"The Treasury Department will continue to aggressively target al-Nusrah Front's and al-Qaeda's financial structures to further disrupt their ability to conduct terrorist attacks," Smith added.
