TEHRAN, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Iran and Australia are keen on boosting cooperation in the fields of water management and renewable energy, semi-official Fars news agency reported on Monday.
During a meeting in the Iranian capital Tehran on Monday, Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Ali Reza Daemi and Martin Hamilton-Smith, the member of the South Australian House of Assembly, discussed the two countries' cooperation in the areas concerned.
"Iran is keen on working with Australian companies on climate change, renewable energies, desalination of seawater and finance," Daemi said.
Hamilton-Smith expressed hope for expansion of research and academic cooperation between Iran and Australia in these areas.
On Sunday, Iran's Energy Ministry inaugurated a 55-megawatt wind farm in the town of Takestan in Qazvin Province.
"Iranian MAPNA group of companies has invested over 92 million U.S. dollars for the project, and the wind farm will be able to supply 15 percent of Iran's electricity," an Iranian energy ministry official said.
Iranian Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian said earlier that his country has approved an amount of three billion dollars for foreign investments in Iran's renewable energies.
