SYDNEY, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Round 22 of Australia's A-League saw Sydney FC extend their lead at the top of the table to 11 points, with a 1-0 win over second-placed Melbourne Victory.
Anticipated to be a high scoring affair, the game turned out to be a gritty match with the Victory's front three unable to capitalise, as Sydney FC's midfield controlled the game and were far too strong at home.
In New Zealand, the Perth Glory were able to come back from 3-1 down to snatch a 3-3 draw from the Wellington Phoenix.
The Western Sydney Wanderers also played to a draw against last placed Adelaide United.
The 0-0 finish frustrated the Wanderers who had the better of the chances and dominated possession.
A spirited performance from the Central Coast Mariners wasn't enough to overcome a classy Melbourne City side.
Down 2-0, the Central Coast fought their way back to 2-2, before penalty sealed the away win for City, the score finishing 3-2.
The Brisbane Roar got back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory against a 10 man Jets side, after Newcastle defender Jason Hoffman received a second yellow card in the 31st minute.
