5.1-magnitude earthquake hits northwestern Myanmar

YANGON, March 4 (Xinhua) -- A 5.1-magnitude earthquake hit northwestern Myanmar Saturday morning, according to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

With an epicenter 45 kilometers northwest of Homalin township, Sagaing region and near Myanmar-India border, the quake jolted at 8:41 a.m. local time (0211 GMT).

No immediate report of casualties is available as the quake struck mountainous areas.

A 6.8-magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar on Aug. 24 last year, damaging hundreds of ancient pagodas and temples in Bagan, one of country's ancient cities.
