WINDHOEK, March 1 (Xinhua) -- Human-wildlife conflict in Namibia has resulted in the death of 60 people since 2013, environment minister Pohamba Shifeta said Wednesday.

Shifeta said this year alone, seven people have died in human-wildlife conflict incidences in the country.

In his keynote address during the official opening of the two-day National Conference on Human-Wildlife Conflict Management, Shifeta also said there is need to review the National Policy on Human-Wildlife Conflict Management that was formulated in 2009.

Shifeta said the conference should discuss the policy with a view of how much farmers who lose their animals to wildlife should be compensated, amid calls by community members suggesting that the compensation should be increased.

The conference is being held as part of commemorating the World Wildlife Day that falls on March 3.
