DUBAI, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- The initiatives of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Yemen are helping the country's reconstruction and have improved the humanitarian situation in areas "liberated" from the rebels, said Fahad Saeed Al-Menhali, Yemeni Ambassador to the UAE, state news agency WAM reported on Saturday.
"By all measures, the response of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) to the humanitarian situation in Yemen exceeded all expectations. It was effective in returning life to normal after the crisis," WAM quoted the Yemeni ambassador as saying.
The Yemeni ambassador made the statements during a recent meeting with Hamdan Musallam Al-Mazrouei, chairman of the board of the ERC, as part of consultations to improve the humanitarian response to the crisis in Yemen.
The ERC's humanitarian operations are focused on "relief, healthcare and education, and its strong presence in the areas that saw the most development has earned it a prominent place among humanitarian agencies operating in the country," he said.
The UAE is part of the Saudi-led coalition of nine Arab states to support Yemen's internationally recognized government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi in the fight against the Iranian-backed Shiite Houthi group.
