Tokyo stocks drop on yen's rise against dollar

TOKYO, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks dropped on Friday morning as investor sentiment was dampened by the yen rising against the U.S. dollar following U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin expressing concern over the dollar's strength.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 30.78 points, or 0.16 percent, from Thursday to 19,340.68.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange lost 0.94 points, or 0.06 percent, to 1,555.31.

Notable decliners by the morning break comprised iron and steel, nonferrous metal and machinery-linked issues.
