COPENHAGEN, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Danish badminton legend Erland Kops died over the weekend at age of 80, local media reported on Monday.
Retired Danish badminton player Peter Gade posted on his Facebook account on Saturday, saying: "One of the biggest legends in our sport of badminton, Erland Kops, passed away this morning. Truly a legend to remember and honor in every way we can."
The 11-time All England champion won many major international singles and doubles titles from the late 1950s to the early 1970s.
He also won Danish title five times in singles and four in doubles, according to the Danish newspaper The Copenhagen Post.
In the Nordic Championships, Kops obtained the title five times in the men's singles category, three times in men's doubles and twice in mixed doubles.
Kops was inducted into the Danish Sports Hall of Fame, the World Badminton Hall of Fame and received the Order of the Dannebrog, a knight's cross presented by the Queen of Denmark Margrethe II, according to the paper.
