The accident happened in the early hours of Tuesday when the minibus driver lost control of the bus due to over-speeding, according to a joint statement released by the Zambia Police and Road Transport and Safety Agency.

The statement said the bus driver lost control due to over-speeding, which resulted in the bus swaying into the opposite lane before colliding with the truck which was coming from the opposite direction.

Among the dead included five males and four females, including the two drivers.

The bus was carrying 34 passengers.

But according to state broadcaster, the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation, the 10th person died at a local hospital while 19 people were injured, nine seriously.

Road traffic accidents involving public buses are common in Zambia, prompting the government to ban the movement of pubic vehicles at night.
