BUJUMBURA, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- A woman was killed and her husband seriously injured in a grenade attack Tuesday night in Burundi's Ruyigi province, state-run radio reported Wednesday.
According to the Burundi National Radio, unidentified persons blasted a grenade around 10 p.m. as the couple that was on their way home riding a motorcycle in Rurenga in Butaganzwa district.
The woman died on the spot and the man who was seriously injured was taken to a local hospital.
People who blasted the grenade ran away after the attack.
Violence is renewed after a couple of months of calm across the East African country.
Last week, an unidentified gunman injured eight people, most of whom were police officers, in a bar at a hotel in Bururi province.
Burundi plunged into a crisis since April 2015 when Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza decided to run his controversial third term.
More than 500 people in Burundi have been killed and the UN Refugee Agency estimates that about 300,000 people fled to neighboring countries mostly Tanzania, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) and Uganda since the outbreak of the crisis.
