UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese envoy on Tuesday told the UN Security Council that it was all the more important for the international community to seek a political settlement to the Syrian crisis since current situation there is complex and sensitive.

Wu Haitao, China's deputy permanent representative to the UN, made the appeal at a Security Council emergency meeting to address crisis in Syria's war-torn city of Aleppo.

Wu said a host of factors in multiple dimensions and their interplay had led to the current situation in Syria

"The international community should ponder in-depth the underlying causes of the current situation and adopt integrated measures in search of comprehensive, fair and proper solution," said Wu.

"Given the complexity and sensitivity of current circumstances, it is all the more important for the international community to stay on the course without wavering towards our overarching goal--to seek a political settlement," he added.

Wu said the international community should work together to move the Syrian issue back to track through dialogue and consultation, and find a solution to the war and chaos as soon as possible.

"Any effort by the international community should be conducive to the work on all four tracks, namely resumption of ceasefire, political talks, joint counter-terrorism and humanitarian assistance," he said.

Wu said "China remains deeply concerned with the situation in some parts of Syria including Aleppo and expresses our profound sympathy for the Syrian people who have suffered abysmal misery brought on by the Syrian conflict."

"China is ready to work with the international community to jointly push for a political solution to the Syrian issue at an early date," he added.
