PERTH, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- The United States, Australia and New Zealand are coming to Papua New Guinea's aid as the Pacific heavyweight lacks high-level security resources for the looming APEC 2018 Leaders Summit.
PNG Prime Minister Peter O'Neill in a statement played down a discussion on security arrangements with the commander U.S. Navy's Pacific Command, Admiral Harry Harris during his visit on Tuesday, saying security is a joint operation for every host country.
"APEC in Papua New Guinea will be a unique Pacific experience, and will maintain the highest level of security to ensure the safety of all Leaders, delegates and officials," O'Neill said.
"Papua New Guinea is working closely our security partners including the United States, Australia and New Zealand, to ensure we have co-ordination in critical areas."
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) are partnering with the authorities of the host city Port Moresby to increase capacity, while the Australian Defence Force (ADF) will provide equipment and personnel during APEC 2018. It's unsure what provisions have been made by the United States.
