ABUJA, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- A petrol tanker explosion in central Nigeria has claimed 14 lives and razed eight houses, local police said on Saturday.
Police spokesman in Niger State Bala Elkana, while confirming the incident, said driver of the petrol-laden tanker lost control and rammed the vehicle into residential buildings in Tegina Town of the central Nigeria state on Friday.
Elkana said victims of the incident were people trapped in buildings engulfed by the fire and roadside sellers.
A police investigation is underway to ascertain other causes of the incident, he said.
Eyewitnesses said five people suffered various degrees of burns due to the magnitude of the fire.
