WASHINGTON, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James has been chosen Sports Illustrated's Sportsperson of the Year for the second time of his career.

After beating the Golden State Warriors to claim the NBA title last season, James helped the Cleveland end its 52-year championship drought. James was named finals MVP for the third time in his career after the Cavaliers becoming the first team to overcome a 3-1 deficit in NBA history.

Since the origin of the award in 1954, James joins Tigers Woods as the only two-time winners of the award after "the King" previously earning the honor in 2010.

The 31-year-old James has won three league MVPs. He returned to Cleveland in 2014 after four seasons in Miami, where he led the Heat to four straight finals and two titles.
