Tokyo shares open higher following OPEC production cuts agreement

TOKYO, Dec. 1 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares opened higher Thursday after the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) reached an agreement on production cuts.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 307.07 points, or 1.68 percent, from Wednesday to 18,615.55.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 19.27 points, or 1.31 percent, to 1,488.70.

Gainers were led by mining, oil and coal products, and iron and steel issues.
