Singaporean leaders convey condolences on the passing of Fidel Castro

SINGAPORE, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Singaporean leaders have conveyed condolences on the passing of Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Monday.

President Tony Tan Keng Yam and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong respectively wrote to Raul Castro, the current leader of Cuba and also Fidel Castro's brother, according to the statement.

President Tan said Fidel Castro made significant contributions to Cuba and the Cuban people, particularly in the provision of public healthcare and education.

"His patriotism and single-minded dedication to Cuba never faltered. His passing is a deep loss to the people of Cuba," said Tan.

Prime Minister Lee said Fidel Castro led Cuba for five decades with unwavering dedication and commitment. He was a patriot who shaped the history of Cuba.

"Today, Cuba has achieved high standards of medical services and become renowned for its advancements in biotechnology. Internationally, he was one of the icons of the 20th Century and has earned a place in history...," Lee said.

Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro passed away at the age of 90 on Friday local time.
