CAIRO, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Egyptian population has just reached 92 million on Thursday, stated a report from Egypt's Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The official agency considered as alarming the population growth rate in Egypt that hit 2.4 percent in 2015, "which is five times the population growth rate in developed countries and twice that of developing countries."
The CAPMAS report noted that only 7.8 percent of Egypt's one million square kilometers total area is inhabited by residents.
According to the report, the capital Cairo is the most populous in Egypt, accommodating 9.58 million people representing 10 percent of the population, while nearby Giza comes second with 7.92 million people and Sharqiya comes third with 6.78 million.
In contrast, South Sinai province is the least populous as it is inhabited by 174,000 people, preceded by Al-Wadi al-Gadid (New Valley) province inhabited by 235,000 and the Red Sea province inhabited by 362,000.
Egypt is the most populous state of the 22 Arab countries, according to statistics.
