ABUJA, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- A suicide bomber killed two people outside a local motor park in Nigeria's Maiduguri city, capital of the northeastern state of Borno late Wednesday, a police spokesman said Thursday.

Victor Isuku, spokesman of the police in Borno State, said there was an explosion outside the local Muna Garage in the city when the bomber detonated his improvised explosive device.

He told Xinhua the victims were inside a Mercedes Benz car parked by the roadside. They were hit by the explosion which damaged their car.

Normalcy has returned to the area, he added.

Last Friday, a suicide bomber blew up himself at the entrance of the same motor park and was the only casualty of the incident.

On the same day, one suicide bomber killed himself and two others a few meters away from the motor park, while another bomber was killed before gaining entry into a refugee camp in the city.

The Borno State has been a stronghold of the extremist group Boko Haram and has been frequently raided in the past six years. In past months, the Nigerian government has launched several military operations to eliminate the terrorist threat.

Boko Haram, which seeks to impose strict Islamic law in northern Nigeria, has been blamed for some 20,000 deaths and displacing of more than 2.6 million people since 2009.
