TEHRAN, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Schools and kindergartens in Iran's capital Tehran will be closed on Monday due to the city's alarming high air pollution, reported the semi-official ISNA news agency on Sunday.
Following the meeting of Tehran Province's Air Pollution Exigency Committee on Sunday, it was decided that the kindergartens and schools of the capital would be closed on Monday, the report said.
In addition, the committee decided to restrict vehicle activity in central Tehran, chief of Tehran's Environment Protection Organization, Naser Mehrdadi, told the official IRNA news agency.
Iran's traffic police also decided to stop issuing licences for vehicles to enter downtown.
In the past years, Iran's government and parliament made several efforts to solve Tehran's air pollution problem, including imposing restrictions on the city's traffic flow, passing measures urging safer fuel and replacing old, inefficient cars with new ones.
