NAY PYI TAW, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar has lost about 65,000 units of electricity due to illegal uses across the country over the past three months since July, revealed the ministry of electricity and energy on Thursday.
U Thant Zin, general manager of Yangon Electricity Supply Corporation, said that Myanmar Electric Power Enterprise is taking actions on illegal users, while expanding the distribution system for more supply.
The power consumption of the country increased by 15 percent or 300 megawatt annually, he said, adding that more power plants are needed to meet the demand .
The country's main power resources are gas and hydro power.
At present, only 3.7 million households in Myanmar can use electricity out of 10 million in the previous fiscal year 2015-2016. The per capital power consumption was about 222 kilowatts, added U Htein Lwin, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy.
