TAIPEI, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan's export orders saw year-on-year growth of 3.9 percent in September on the back of high demand for telecommunication and electronic products, according to data released by the island's economic department Friday.

Export orders for the month stood at 42.96 billion U.S. dollars, according to the department. Monthly exports of telecommunication and electronic products set record highs.

According to the department, orders for telecommunication products were worth 14.63 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 8 percent year on year.

Orders for electronic products rose 10.1 percent year on year to 11.6 billion U.S. dollars.

The department said orders from the United States, the Chinese mainland and European countries recorded year on year increases in September, while orders from Japan fell.

The department forecasts orders for electronics and telecommunication products will continue to grow in October as European and U.S. markets entered big shopping seasons and oil and steel prices are expected to rebound.
