HOUSTON, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- The annually Texas Renaissance Festival has started in Todd Mission, a city about 80 km northwest of Houston in the southern U.S. state of Texas, and visitors from Texas and across the nation have shown their interests in this event.

As an interactive theme park highlighting different eras from the 16th century and beyond, the Texas Renaissance Festival, which was founded in 1974, now attracts over 500,000 visitors each year.

The Festival, which began on Saturday and will last until November 27,this year, now brings together food and fun along with live entertainment where actors play the part of the era they represent.

While staying true to their characters throughout the event, fans enjoy unique interactions with jugglers and fortune tellers that span over 8 theme filled weekends in October and November.

According to Travis Byrant, director of the festival public relations department, covering about 55 acres, guests create their own experience whether it is window shopping through the village of handcrafted items, mingling with the characters, participating in games or attending performances at any of the over 20 stages or entertainment.

He told Xinhua on Sunday that theme filled weekends cover a wide range of fantasies for the whole family to enjoy. Past or present themes cover the Roman era, Barbarian quests and pirate adventures among others.

The annually Texas Renaissance Festival is the United States' largest Renaissance themed park.

Each theme features games, costumes, food, and activities associated with the period and presented as authentically as possible. Guests can enjoy the fun from a distance or participate in the many contests designed to welcome families into the fantasy.

"You know, we think it is funny to give people a chance to step back to another time, another place and pretend they live a world full of kings and queens, knights, nobles, pirates, peasants, fairies and elves," he said proudly.

Some actors and actresses told Xinhua that they are enjoying their work here very much as this festival is very interesting and visitors also can have a lot of fun.

And quite a few visitors also said that their experience of visiting this theme park is special and can not be forgotten.
