SARAJEVO, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Eight head of cattle tested positive for bluetongue disease in Olovo, some 50 km northeast of here, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
This information was confirmed on Tuesday by the Operational Center of the FBiH Civil Protection Administration (FBiH CPA).
One animal has died, according to BiH news agency Fena.
The veterinary station in Olovo is monitoring the situation. The disease is not threatening to grow into an epidemic, stated the FBiH CPA.
Bluetongue disease is a non-contagious, insect-borne disease mainly found among sheep and cattle. Symptoms of the disease include high fever, excessive salivation and swelling of the face and tongue. Swelling of the lips and tongue sometimes gives the ruminants' tongue a blue appearance.
