Israel can be target of Iran's missiles: IRGC commander

Source: Xinhua   2016-09-28 01:10:01

TEHRAN, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- A senior commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said here Tuesday that Iran is in possession of missiles with a range enough to reach Israel, Press TV reported.

Iran does not need missiles with a range of over 2,000 km, since the missile available can reach Israel, Commander of the IRGC's Aerospace Division Brigadier General Amirali Hajizadeh was quoted as saying.

"The Zionist regime (of Israel) is our biggest target" and Iran has already the necessary missiles for this purpose, Hajizadeh said.

Earlier, IRGC commander, Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, also said that Israel was within the reach of most of the Islamic republic's missiles.

In September 2009, IRGC successfully test-fired its home-made Sejil and Shahab-3 missiles.

The two-stage, solid fuel Sejil is said to have a range of 2,000 km and the range of Shahab-3 missile is between 1,300 km and 2,000 km.

On Sunday, Iran's defense ministry launched the production line of new homegrown ballistic missile of "Zolfaqar" which is capable of evading jamming signals in electronic warfare, runs on solid fuel and can hit the targets with pin-point accuracy in a range of 750 km.

On the day, Iran's Defense Minister Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehqan said the Islamic republic was capable of designing and producing missiles with any range as well as any level of precision and destructive power, including cruise missiles and the ones using solid or liquid fuel.

Iranian officials have vowed to develop missile programs as a means to enhance deterrent power of the country.
