TOKYO, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks inched higher Tuesday morning in cautious trade as investors await the central bank's policy decisions following a two-day meeting beginning Tuesday, with bets gaining the bank won't further lower its already negative interest rate.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 18.61 points, or 0.11 percent, from Friday to 16,537.90.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, advanced 8.28 points, or 0.63 percent, to 1,319.78.

Notable advancers by the morning break comprised electric power and gas, information and communication, and rubber product issues.

Tokyo markets were closed on Monday for a national holiday.
