KUNMING, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from a truck-crane crash in southwest China's Yunnan Province Monday has risen to nine after two died in hospital. Another three were injured.
The accident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on a highway in Jianshui County when a crane crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a small truck, said local work safety watchdog.
The truck, with a stated capacity of three, had 12 passengers and all the fatalities and injuries were in the truck.
Seven truck passengers died at the scene. Of the five injured, two died later after treatment failed.
In the wake of the deadly accident, top provincial officials have ordered beefed-up highway safety management.
