HOHHOT, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's largest land border port, Manzhouli, has seen robust growth of cross-border freight trains in the first seven months of the year, mainly due to the Belt and Road Initiative.
From January to July, 464 cross-border freight trains passed Manzhouli port of entry, an increase of 45.5 percent year on year, according to statistics from the Inner Mongolia Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.
During this period, seven new international freight train routes via Manzhouli were opened to link cities in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region with other provinces such as Hebei and Guangdong, as well as with Europe, bringing the total number of freight train routes via Manzhouli to 21.
Manzhouli, located in northeast Inner Mongolia, borders Russia to the north and sits close to Mongolia to the west. More than 60 percent of trade between China and Russia passes through the city.
The port of entry has become increasingly busy due to the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along ancient trade routes.
