TOKYO, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened down on Wednesday following a poor showing on Wall Street overnight and the yen's jump to a three-week high versus the U.S. dollar.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 195.97 points, or 1.20 percent, from Tuesday to 16,195.48.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 19.04 points, or 1.46 percent, to 1,281.16.
Notable early decliners comprised brokerage, paper and pulp, and banking-linked issues.
