HANOI, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) deputies on Thursday afternoon cast their votes to elect Chairperson of the 14th NA.

During the first session of the 14th NA in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Thursday, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan was approved by 97.17 percent of NA deputies to be the sole nominee for the post of 14th NA chairperson, according to Vietnam's state-run news agency.

Earlier on March 31, Ngan was elected Chairwoman of the 13th NA, becoming the country's first female parliamentary chief.

Also on Thursday, NA deputies voted to elect 14th NA vice chairpersons and members of 14th NA Standing Committee.

Results of the election are scheduled to be announced on Friday.

The first session of the 14th NA of Vietnam kicked off Wednesday in Hanoi, commencing a new parliament for 2016-2021 tenure.
