TOKYO, July 5 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo shares opened lower Tuesday as investors opt to secure profits made during the six-day rise of Nikkei index while a stronger yen weighed on market confidence.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 136.33 points, or 0.86 percent, from Monday to 15,639.47.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 9.59 points, or 0.76 percent, to 1,252.38.

Decliners were led by mining, oil and coal as well as insurance issues.
