ANKARA, June 28 (Xinhua) -- A roadside bombing attack by Kurdish Workers' Party militants in southeastern Turkish province of Diyarbakir on Tuesday morning injured 8 people including 2 police officers, Dogan News Agency reported.

The explosion occurred in Lice district of Diyarbakir while a military vehicle was passing by. Eight people including 2 police officers injured in the attack were sent to nearby hospital.

Diyarbakir Governor's office stated that a curfew was declared in 39 villages in Lice districts, as security forces initiated a wide-scale operation against PKK militants in the region.

Diyarbakir, mostly Kurds-populated, has been a focal point for conflict between Turkish armed forces and PKK militants.

Meanwhile security sources told local media on Tuesday that Turkish warplanes conducted an air operation against PKK targets in the Kandil region of northern Iraq on June 27, destroying 7 PKK targets.
