Zambian official hails Chinese firm for quality works on airport terminal

CHINGOLA, Zambia, March 18 (Xinhua) -- A Zambia government official on Wednesday hailed a Chinese construction company, China Jiangxi Corporation for International Economic and Technical Cooperation Limited, for quality works on the extension of the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) in Lusaka, the Zambian capital.

Japhen Mwakalombe, a lawmaker made the observation in an interview when he toured the project site to check on the progress of the works.

He disclosed that, the Zambian government had contracted the Chinese firm to construct the new terminal building that was meant to modernize and expand the current infrastructure at the airport.

He expressed gratification at the quality of works so far and said that the works were of high standard and would add value to the international airport which was the biggest in the country.

Mwakalombe said that, the project which was at 90 percent complete was a monumental achievement for the government.

"Our hope is that, the project would be completed as soon as possible and handed over to the government so that we can begin to see the benefits," the lawmaker said.

He also observed that, the new terminal building would be a facelift to the existing airport and would increase economic activities that would be as a result of businesses that would be set up to meet the demand for products and services by both local and international visitors.
