DOHA, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Spain and Japan play for a place in the last 16 of the World Cup on Thursday night in a game that could see one or both sides qualify for the knockout stages from Group E.

Spain lead the group with four points from their first two matches, while Japan have three points after following their shock win over Germany with an even more surprising defeat to Costa Rica.

Spain will qualify with a draw, which could also be enough for Japan if Germany draw with Costa Rica. Meanwhile, a win would see Hajime Moriyasu's men into the next stage as group winners, with Spain's goal difference still good enough for them to qualify in second place.

Spain coach Luis Enrique has been quick to quash suggestions that his side would take their foot off the pedal in order to see Germany out of the tournament, although he has implied that he could make some changes to his side.

Two goals in two matches have probably been enough to earn Alvaro Morata a place in the side after overcoming a slight physical problem.

Gavi and Rodri trained inside on Tuesday, but should be available and Luis Enrique may push Rodri into midfield to allow veteran Sergio Busquets to rest, with Koke also an option in the middle of the park.

Alejandro Balde could also start at left-back after an exhausted Jordi Alba needed to be substituted against Germany and Unai Simon continues in goal after some excellent stops against Germany.

The keeper has admitted that he still has to work on his play with his feet, given that many of Spain's moves from the back start with him giving the ball to a teammate.

"Making a mistake and then keeping going and trying it again is one of the toughest things in football," commented the keeper.

Expect Spain to dominate possession against Japan, while the Japanese will aim to make their speed on the break their main attacking weapon.
