The death toll of migrants in a sweltering 18-wheeler on Monday in San Antonio, Texas, has risen to 53, 40 male and 13 female.

"Deaths of 53 migrants in Texas stoke grief, fears of a deadly summer" -- this is the title of the report by The Washington Post. "Tractor-trailers are common because these criminal organizations are trying to maximize profit."

"When U.S. Immigration Policy Kills" -- this is the title of the commentary by The Wall Street Journal.

"Human smuggling is an ugly business, and sometimes a murderous one. The death of at least 50 migrants trapped in a truck in broiling heat is a crime, but it's also another sign that America lacks a humane, sensible immigration policy."

The Editorial Board commentary insisted that "as the party in power in Washington with the responsibility for immigration policy, the (Joe) Biden Administration has the duty to fix this so migrants don't have to play roulette with their lives."

Texas Governor Greg Abbott was also quick to blame the president, writing that "these deaths are on Biden."

He and other Republican candidates running in the November elections have been hammering Democrats over border security issues for a long time.

Biden reacted in a precise way and to the target. He said in a statement that "exploiting vulnerable individuals for profit is shameful, as is political grandstanding around tragedy."
