Customs in central China's Hunan Province had intercepted four live plants of endangered cactus species in a parcel from overseas, officials said. Customs officials in the provincial capital Changsha said Thursday they found the plants, with soil attached, in a package labeled "decorations" on Dec. 15. One plant was identified as Gymnocalycium hybopleurum and the others were Echinocactus horizonthalonius or "devilshead," both endangered species listed on CITES Appendix II. The plants have been sent to local forestry authorities, the officials added.
