The Sanjiangyuan region in northwest China's Qinghai Province has introduced clean energy in its heating system since 2017. Over the years, the locals have benefited from the greener heating method. The Sanjiangyuan region is dubbed "China's water tower." It is the source of China's three major rivers -- the Yangtze, Yellow and Lancang. The region has a fragile ecology. The clean-energy scheme was rolled out to help preserve the local ecosystem after traditional heating methods such as burning cow dung and coal have led to serious pollution. As of July, electric boilers of 230,000 kilowatts have been established in Sanjiangyuan, covering an area of 3.19 million square meters. More than 100,000 people benefited from the clean heating system which reduces 250,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
