RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Sao Paulo extended their lead in the Brazilian Serie A standings on Wednesday with a 3-0 home win over fellow title contenders Atletico Mineiro.
Igor Gomez gave the hosts a first-half lead before Gabriel Sara and Jonas Toro struck late to secure Fernando Diniz's men their 15th win of the campaign.
Atletico enjoyed a greater share of possession and had more completed passes but lacked a cutting edge in attack.
The result at the Morumbi stadium left Sao Paulo with 53 points from 26 matches, seven points clear of Atletico. Defending champions Flamengo are a point further back in third place but have two games in hand.
Sao Paulo are aiming to win their first Brazilian Serie A title since 2008 while Atletico Mineiro's only top flight triumph came in 1971. Enditem
