ROME, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Romelu Lukaku's penalty proved decisive as Inter Milan edged past Napoli 1-0 on Wednesday, cutting the gap to Serie A leaders AC Milan to one point.

Both Inter and Napoli had a couple of chances in the highly-anticipated fixture, and the Nerazzuri broke the deadlock in the 74th minute as Matteo Darmian earned a penalty after being tripped by goalkeeper David Ospina. After Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne saw red for dissent, Lukaku stepped up to convert the spot-kick.

Leaders Milan were held to a 2-2 draw at Genoa. Mattia Destro's brace helped the home side take the lead twice, but Davide Calabria and Pierre Kalulu canceled out the ex-Milan player's double.

The Rossoneri still lead the table with 28 points, but are now just one point ahead of Inter.

Juventus shared the spoils with Atalanta 1-1 at the Allianz stadium. Federico Chiesa's stunner gave the Bianconeri a half-time lead, but Remo Freuler scored the equalizer with another blockbuster, while Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty.

In Wednesday's other fixtures, Parma and Cagliari drew 0-0, Sampdoria won 2-1 away to Hellas Verona, Spezia and Bologna played out a 2-2 thriller, and Fiorentina drew 1-1 with Sassuolo. Enditem
