BERLIN, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Borussia Dortmund returned to winning ways after captain Marco Reus scored the decisive goal in a 2-1 win at Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Tuesday.

The BVB started highly motivated into the first game of newly-appointed interim coach Edin Terzic, and needed only five minutes to produce the first clear-cut chance of the game, as youngster Youssoufa Moukoko missed Giovanni Reyna's square pass at the far post.

Seven minutes later, Dortmund eventually broke the deadlock with its next promising chance as Raphael Guerreiro tapped home Jadon Sancho's blocked shot from very close range.

The visitors dictated proceedings on the pitch but Bremen leveled the scores out of the blue with 28 minutes played, when Kevin Mohwald capitalized on Manuel Akanji's turnover to drill the ball from the edge of the box past Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki.

Dortmund continued to keep Bremen's defense busy as Christian Gross rattled his own post to prevent Reus from tapping home, before Bremen goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka kept out Akanji's rebound from close range before the break.

After the restart, Dortmund picked up where they left off and created the first chance of the second half with five minutes gone when Moukoko was inches short of Reus' square pass.

In the 58th minute, the BVB thought they had taken the lead again, but Jadon Sancho's goal was ruled offside. Terzic's men remained on the front foot but Reus's header was no challenge for Pavlenka in the 75th minute.

Three minutes later, Bremen goalkeeper Pavlenka helped Dortmund grab the 2-1 lead after fouling Akanji inside the box.

Reus stepped up to take the resultant penalty, and though Pavlenka saved his attempt from the spot, the German international poked home the rebound.

Bremen wasn't able to bounce back, while Dortmund secured its first win in four Bundesliga matches.

With the result, Borussia Dortmund climb to fourth, while Werder Bremen remain in 13th place.

Elsewhere, Sasa Kalajdzic's late brace helped newly-promoted Stuttgart secure a 2-2 draw against Union Berlin, Eintracht Frankfurt lost points on home soil as Lars Stindl's double in injury time helped Borussia Monchengladbach to a 3-3 draw, while Hertha Berlin and bottom side Mainz played out a goalless draw.

The following fixtures conclude the 12th round of Bundesliga matches on Wednesday: bottom side Schalke host Freiburg, second-placed Bayern Munich encounter Wolfsburg, Hoffenheim face third-placed RB Leipzig, Cologne clash with front runners Bayer Leverkusen, and newcomers Arminia Bielefeld meet Augsburg.
