China's first road-rail suspension bridge open to traffic

JIANGSU, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Wufengshan Yangtze River Bridge, China's first road-rail suspension bridge, was open to traffic in Zhenjiang, east China's Jiangsu Province on Friday.

The  road-rail suspension bridge has a length of 6.4 kilometers and a main span of 1,092 meters.

It integrates an eight-lane expressway on the upper deck and a high-speed railway on the lower deck. The expressway has a designed speed of 100 km/h and the railway -- 250 km/h.

The bridge is a key part of the Lianyungang-Zhenjiang railway in Jiangsu. The railway opened on the same day and cuts the travel time between Lianyungang and Shanghai from 11 to three hours.
