BERLIN, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Wolfsburg came from behind to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 thanks to Wout Weghorst's second-half brace in the Bundesliga on Friday.

The Wolves assumed control from the start and played out four corners in the first seven minutes.

Two minutes later, Wolfsburg created the first clear-cut chance of the game, but Xaver Schlager's shot was defected by Djibril Sow and cannoned off the right-hand post.

It was a busy opening period for Frankfurt's goalkeeper Kevin Trapp, who had to be on guard to save promising efforts from Kevin Mbabu and Weghorst.

The Eagles eventually had some attempts on target when Sow and Erik Durm tried their luck with long-range efforts around the half-hour mark.

After the restart, the clash got into gear as Filip Kostic had only Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels to beat, but pulled over, before Trapp made two saves in quick succession to deny Maximilian Philipp and Weghorst.

As the match progressed, Frankfurt gained a foothold and shocked the Wolves with the opener in the 63rd minute when John Brooks fouled Martin Hinteregger inside the box. Former Wolfsburg player Bas Dost stepped up and made no mistake to break the deadlock from the spot.

Frankfurt tried to defend its narrow lead, but Wolfsburg had an ace in the hole and restored parity through prolific Dutch striker Weghorst, who sent Trapp the wrong way from a penalty following a handball in the 76th minute.

The hosts almost turned things around two minutes later, but David Abraham blocked Bartosz Bialek's header on the goal line.

The Wolves continued on the front foot and completed their comeback in the 88th minute when Weghost overcame Trapp with a one-timer from a tight angle to mark his ninth goal of the season.

With the result, Wolfsburg extend its unbeaten run and jump to the fourth place in the standings. Frankfurt remain in ninth spot.

The following matches are scheduled for Saturday: Borussia Dortmund host newcomers Stuttgart, RB Leipzig take on Werder Bremen, Borussia Monchengladbach entertain Hertha Berlin, Freiburg face newly-promoted Arminia Bielefeld, Mainz clash with Cologne and Union Berlin take on front-runners Bayern Munich.
