NEW DELHI, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Governor of the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand Baby Rani Maurya and health minister of Rajasthan state Raghu Sharma have tested positive for COVID-19, officials said Monday.

According to officials at the Uttarakhand Governor's office, Maurya has isolated herself and urged her close contacts to get tested.

"My COVID-19 test report has come positive. I am asymptomatic and have no problem," the governor said in a brief statement posted on social media.

"I have isolated myself under the supervision of the doctors. Those of you who have come in close contact with me in the last few days, please be cautious and get yourself tested."

Reports said on Saturday Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari had called on Maurya at her office.

Meanwhile, local health minister of the western Indian state of Rajasthan Raghu Sharma has also tested positive for COVID-19.

Sharma on twitter urged his close contacts to undergo COVID-19 test.

"On getting the initial symptoms of COVID-19, I got my test done and the report came back positive. I request that all of you who have come in contact with me in the last few days, please isolate yourself and get tested," he said.

India is in the grip of the COVID-19 pandemic with increasing cases.

Recently several key political figures from around the country, including several ministers, have tested positive for COVID-19.

In September India's federal junior railways minister Suresh Angadi died due to COVID-19.

On Monday the federal health ministry said the number of COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 9,139,865 and the death toll rose to 133,738.

Globally India is the second worst-hit country by the COVID-19 pandemic. Enditem
