Chinese shares close higher on Thursday

BEIJING, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.3 percent to 3,320.13 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.72 percent higher at 13,894.26 points.

The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices stood at 859.75 billion yuan (about 128.52 billion U.S. dollars), up from 729.7 billion yuan the previous trading day.

Gainers outnumbered losers by 1,285 to 148 on the Shanghai bourse and by 1,931 to 320 in Shenzhen.

Stocks related to automobile manufacturing, power generating equipment and the chemical industry led the gains.

Shares of China's leading automaker SAIC Motor Corporation Limited rose 8.23 percent to close at 27.5 yuan per share while shares of Suzhou Industrial Park Heshun Electric Co., Ltd. surged 20.03 percent to 17.86 yuan per share.

The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.36 percent to close at 2,787.88 points Thursday. Enditem
