MADRID, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid took a big step towards the knockout stage of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday with an easy 6-0 win at home to Galatasaray thanks partly to a hat-trick from Brazilian striker Rodrygo.
Rodrygo scored twice in the first seven minutes of the game and rounded off an impressive display with his third goal of the game in injury time.
The result wasn't in doubt from the fourth minute when the young Brazilian was given time in the Galatasaray area to control a pass from the left and open the scoring with a low shot.
The teenager doubled his tally for the night just three minutes later when he headed home another pass supplied by Real Madrid left back Marcelo.
He could have completed his hat-trick in the 12th minute when Steven N'Zonzi fouled Tony Kroos on the edge of the visitors' area. However, with the crowd chanting for Rodrygo to take the spot kick, Sergio Ramos stepped up and scored with a chip into the center of the goal.
The game calmed down slightly after that with Real Madrid happy to control the ball against a rival that was already well beaten.
Marcelo was forced off just before the break and replaced by Ferland Mendy, but it didn't affect Real Madrid's dominance and just before injury time Rodrygo turned provider with the pass that allowed Karim Benzema to make it 4-0.
The second half was one-way traffic with Real Madrid in control, although thanks to a good display from Galatasaray keeper Fernando Muslera it wasn't until the 82nd minute that Madrid scored their fifth when Benzema scored his second of the night from Dani Carvajal's pass.
Rodrygo completed his hat-trick with a right-foot shot in the 92nd minute and his side will assure a place in the last 16 if they can take a point from their last two group games, which are away to Bruges and at home to Paris Saint Germain.
