RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Flamengo left-back Filipe Luis said Friday that he could be in the midst of the best period of his career as the Rio de Janeiro giants seek to win a historic Brazilian Serie A-Copa Libertadores double.

Flamengo reached the final of the Copa Libertadores - South America's top club competition - by defeating Gremio 6-1 on aggregate in their all Brazilian semifinal.

The Rubro-negra - as the team is affectionately known by fans - currently have a 10-point lead at the top of the Brazilian Serie A standings with 11 matches remaining.

"Perhaps it is the most special moment of my career," the Brazil international left-back told Globo Esporte when asked about Flamengo's 5-0 victory over Gremio in the second leg of their semifinal at the Maracana stadium on Wednesday.

"And I've experienced a lot of things, I played in the World Cup, Champions League finals," the 34-year-old added.

Luis has been a bedrock in Flamengo's defence since joining the club as a free agent from Atletico Madrid in July.

He has made 10 appearances in the Serie A and four in the Copa Libertadores, helping the club go on an unbeaten run that currently stands at 18 matches.

Flamengo will be aiming for only their second Libertadores title - and first since 1981 - when they meet defending champions River Plate of Argentina in the final in Santiago, Chile, on November 23.

The side managed by former Benfica and Sporting Lisbon boss Jorge Jesus are also vying for their first Serie A title since 2009.

Pele's Santos are the only Brazilian team to have won the Serie A and Copa Libertadores titles in the same year, having achieved the feat in both 1962 and 1963.
