BEIRUT, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese House Speaker Nabih Berri said quick and concrete reform measures are needed to carry out the prime minister's initiatives, local media reported Tuesday.

"The council of ministers should have announced quick reform measures in addition to a national committee aimed at eradicating political sectarianism," Berri was quoted as saying by Elnashra, an online independent newspaper.

Berri said that a secular state is urgently needed in Lebanon because it constitutes a solution to all problems in the country.

Meanwhile, Berri expressed his optimism about the reforms mentioned in the economic plan while calling upon all political parties to commit seriously to these reforms.

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri announced on Monday an economic plan with reforms expected to be implemented by the end of this year after five consecutive days of nationwide protests against the government's policies.
