SHIJIAZHUANG, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese archaeologists have discovered two tombstone inscriptions dating back more than 330 years in the city of Nangong, north China's Hebei Province, according to local authorities.

There were 2,085 characters on the 90-centimeter-long and 86-centimeter-wide tombstone inscriptions, which described the life of Du Zhen, the owner of the tomb, living in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Du Zhen was also praised for fighting against bandits, donating to relief efforts and respecting the aged and taking good care of children in the inscriptions.

"The inscriptions provided important evidence for the study of the society and culture in the Qing Dynasty," said Wen Shijia, head of the city's department of cultural relics conservation.
