RABAT, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Moroccan King Mohammed VI decided to give a grant as Morocco's contribution to the restoration of some areas in Al-Aqsa Mosque, Morocco's foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The ministry did not mention the amount of the grant.

The grant is part of the continued efforts that the Moroccan king is making for the benefits of the city of Jerusalem, the statement said.

It is also in favor of the promotion of its civilizational identity and religious symbolism as an open space for coexistence and tolerance between the different religions, the statement said.

Moroccan architects and craftsmen will be sent to preserve the centuries-old architectural authenticity of the mosque, it added.

The Moroccan monarch ordered that this operation be conducted in coordination with the administration of the Islamic Awqaf of Jordan, it said.
