VALLETTA, May 1 (Xinhua) -- Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, during a rally commemorating Workers Day on Monday, announced that Malta's next general election will be held on June 3.
The snap election will be happening nine months before the due date.
This will only be the second time in the history of the European Union when a country will be going through general elections whilst retaining the EU Presidency.
Muscat said that the country was "showing the first signs of suffering from uncertainty. We either stop here or else we will continue moving ahead together and risk losing everything".
