Poland, British PMs discuss minimizing negative Brexit consequences over phone

WARSAW, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo discussed the necessity of minimizing the negative effects of Brexit with her British counterpart Theresa May, during a phone conversation on Wednesday evening.

According to the Polish government's spokesman Rafal Bochenek, guaranteeing the rights of Polish citizens living in Britain was among the most crucial issues under discussion.

He also said that both the prime ministers agreed that the negotiation should be as smooth and effective as possible in order to minimize the negative effects of Brexit.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Polish Foreign Ministry issued a press release saying that British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson held a phone conversation with his Polish counterpart Witold Waszczykowski.

During the phone call, Johnson briefed him on Wednesday on triggering Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty by Britain and the contents of a letter addressed by May to President of the European Council Donald Tusk.

Waszczykowski called for a precise and legally binding guarantee of the rights of all European Union citizens residing in Britain.
